A Day That Reminded Me Why I Love Teaching Art
Some days stay with you long after you've packed the paintings away.
Today was one of those days in beautiful Mawgan Porth, Cornwall.
The day began with a challenge when my easel broke. Before I could even begin worrying, two kind gentlemen appeared and helped me repair it. Their generosity meant I could carry on painting and teaching without missing a beat.
Later, I had the pleasure of teaching a wonderful young man to sketch. Watching someone begin to understand how to truly observe, rather than simply copy, is one of the greatest rewards of teaching. Seeing confidence grow as understanding develops is something that never loses its magic.
As if that wasn't enough, someone who had commissioned a painting from me a couple of years ago spotted me on the beach and surprised me with a chocolate ice cream. Such a thoughtful gesture completely made my day.
Art has introduced me to extraordinary people over the years. Whether I'm creating a commission, teaching an art lesson, or simply painting on the beach, I'm constantly reminded that kindness and creativity often go hand in hand.
Days like today remind me that painting is about so much more than creating pictures. It's about people, shared experiences, learning, generosity and making memories.
I went home tired, sandy, smiling... and feeling incredibly lucky to do what I love.
