Art Lesson Cornwall… Real Progress Over Time
A lesson inside to avoid the wind, yet still completely connected to the joy of learning, looking, and creating.
This short video captures something I love about teaching art: there is always more to learn, and real progress comes from understanding what you are seeing rather than trying to copy what you think should be there.
Mike has been having lessons with me over a number of years, and one of the lovely things he says in this video is that he is still amazed by how much there is to learn. That sense of curiosity matters. It keeps the work alive, and it keeps the artist growing.
He also talks about how quickly I can pick up when perspective or structure begins to drift, and help bring it back on track. That is a huge part of what I teach through Visual Awareness and Art At The Beach in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall.
I teach the grammar, spelling and punctuation of art, so people begin to understand why things work, why something looks right, and what to adjust when it does not. Once that clicks, confidence grows very quickly.
Another part that means a lot to me is the ongoing support. Learning does not begin and end with the official lesson time. I am always there in the background to help, whether that means answering a quick question, looking at a piece of work, or helping someone get back on course when they feel a little unsure.
That continued support is part of the journey, and it helps people keep moving forward without feeling alone in it.
What I also love about Mike’s work is that he is always willing to challenge himself. That willingness to attempt difficult things is where growth happens, and it is often the reason beautiful, surprising artwork begins to emerge.
