Sunshine and Memories at Mawgan Porth
Original acrylic painting on canvas
20" x 30" x 1.5"
Painted en plein air at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall
Finally finished today…
Some paintings seem to hold more than colour, light and brushstrokes. They hold the feeling of the day they were created.
This original acrylic painting was painted en plein air on the beach at Mawgan Porth in Cornwall, with the warmth of the sunshine, the movement of the tide and the quiet joy of people enjoying the beach becoming part of the work itself.
Painting outside is never quite the same as painting from a photograph. The light changes. The shadows move. The reflections on wet sand appear and disappear. You have to stay present, observe carefully and respond to what is really there.
For me, that is where the real magic of art begins.
This painting is called Sunshine and Memories because that is exactly what it feels like to me. A beautiful day at Mawgan Porth, captured not only as a view, but as an experience.
There is always something emotional about finishing a painting. You spend time with it, return to it, solve its little puzzles and gradually watch it come to life. Then comes the moment when it is ready to find its new home.
I hope this piece finds someone who feels that connection… someone who sees not only Mawgan Porth, but the memories, calm and sunshine held within it.
