Painting, Learning and Laughing Together at Mawgan Porth

Some art lessons are as much about the experience of painting together as the finished artwork.

This lovely granny and grandson joined me for an art lesson at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, and their faces really tell the story. Sunshine, a sea breeze, that wonderful Cornish view and plenty of giggles as they each created their own little seascape.

One of the things I love about teaching families is seeing different generations learning alongside one another. They may approach the same subject completely differently, but the fundamentals of art give each person the understanding they need to make their own decisions rather than simply copying what I do.

Here, they were exploring colour, brushwork, the sea, sky and landscape around them, while creating two very different pieces of artwork.

For me, their smiles were every bit as lovely as their paintings. They were learning, laughing and enjoying being together in the sunshine at Mawgan Porth… and taking home not only their artwork, but a shared memory of their time in Cornwall.

My private art lessons at Mawgan Porth can bring together children, parents, grandparents, couples and family groups. The teaching is adapted to the individual, so different ages and abilities can learn together while still developing their own technique and style.

Sometimes the best thing created during an art lesson isn't only the painting… it's the memory that goes with it.
