Expanding Your Artistic Repertoire at Mawgan Porth
One of the great pleasures of teaching art is watching an artist’s repertoire grow.
This lovely lady works with me through a mixture of Zoom and face-to-face art lessons. She’s already sold a number of her paintings, but learning doesn’t stop when you reach a certain level. There are always new techniques, approaches and ways of seeing to explore.
Her latest Mawgan Porth painting is a lovely example. Look at the beautiful colours, the changing light, the reflections across the wet sand and the softness as the beach disappears into the distance.
For me, teaching isn’t about encouraging an artist to settle into one particular style. Understanding the fundamentals of colour, light, perspective, observation and technique gives you choices.
You can experiment with realism, loosen your brushwork, try different media or approach the same subject in a completely different way. That growing repertoire is what gives an artist freedom.
And seeing that smile as the skills, techniques and possibilities continue to expand is rather lovely too. 🎨🌊
