A Half Term Full of Sunshine, Smiles and Brushstrokes
What a beautiful half term at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall.
It started with my new little shed and signage at Betty’s… and somehow unfolded into one of those weeks that reminds me exactly why I love doing what I do.
There was sunshine, sand, the sound of the waves, children painting, families stopping to chat, locals waving, visitors joining in, and people watching paintings slowly come to life on the beach.
There were two community paintings too… one for the RNLI and one for Surf Life Saving Cornwall, both created with the help of passers-by, children, adults, locals and holidaymakers adding their own little brushstrokes.
There were art lessons full of colour, science, confidence and laughter. Children learnt about the colours of the sky, sea and sand, the science behind what they were seeing, the geology of the landscape, brush techniques, colour, light and how to use that knowledge with confidence.
There was also a perspective lesson on the beach, looking at shadows, reflections, distance, vanishing points, atmosphere and how Mawgan Porth can become a living classroom when you know what to look for.
There was ice cream from Betty’s, a dog in a bow tie, birthday smiles, old friends, new faces, and a lovely lady who found me on Facebook and came over to say hello.
There were paintings held up proudly, people watching me work, conversations I will remember, and the kind of simple, beautiful moments that make Mawgan Porth feel so special.
And at the end… one of the charity paintings heading off to its new home.
