From Mawgan Porth to Zoom… Continuing the Art Journey
What a smile… and such a lovely continuation of the journey. 🎨
I first met this lovely student here at Mawgan Porth in Cornwall, where we worked together through my nine hour Secrets of Art masterclass in the core fundamentals of art: Sketch, Perspective and Paint.
The course is not about learning how to copy. It is about understanding the mechanics behind what we see and learning how to translate that into artwork with greater confidence and awareness.
Across Sketch, Perspective and Paint, we worked on observation, light, depth, perspective, colour and the foundations that help an artist understand why something looks the way it does.
Much of that learning happened beside the sea at Mawgan Porth, using the Cornish coastline itself as our classroom. Cornwall gives us such an extraordinary mixture of changing light, sea, cliffs, buildings, skies and atmosphere to study, making it a wonderful place to explore the fundamentals of art in real life.
She is now studying for her degree and has moved away, so our lessons have simply moved from the beach onto Zoom.
That means she can continue developing her art skills alongside her university work, while still having individual guidance and support when she needs it.
Here she is with her latest Cornwall watercolour… and I think that smile says rather a lot. ❤️
Can you recognise where in Cornwall she has painted?
One of the things I love about teaching this way is that moving away, going to university or living miles apart does not have to mean the learning stops. The location may change, but the understanding and development can carry on.
Whether lessons begin face to face here at Mawgan Porth in Cornwall or take place entirely online, the aim remains the same… to help each artist understand the fundamentals so they can develop their own skills, style and way of seeing.
