A Family of Mawgan Porth Paintings
One of the things I love most about painting Mawgan Porth, Cornwall is that I can return to the same place again and again and never really see the same view twice.
The tide changes, clouds move across the Cornish sky, sunlight catches the water differently and the colours of the landscape alter with the weather and the time of day. Even the mood of the beach seems to change.
These original paintings were created by me, Jeanni Grant-Nelson, at different times and on different days. Looking at them together, I realised they had become rather like a little family of paintings… each unmistakably Mawgan Porth, yet each with its own character.
Some capture the quieter, softer pastel tones of Cornwall, while others explore the movement of water, the stream leading towards the sea and the wonderful sense of space that makes this part of the north Cornish coast so special.
For me, landscape painting is never about copying what is in front of me. It is about looking, understanding and responding… noticing the light, colour, perspective, movement and atmosphere that make a place feel the way it does.
Perhaps that is why I continue to paint Mawgan Porth after so many years. I know the landscape incredibly well, but it still surprises me. There is always another moment, another sky and another piece of Cornwall waiting to become an artwork.
These original Mawgan Porth paintings by Jeanni Grant-Nelson are now available online.
