Yesterday, I had the joy of working with a bright, curious eight-year-old who reminded me why I teach.
She arrived wide-eyed and ready to create… but what she didn’t realise was that she was about to see in a whole new way.
We started with sketches — simple shapes. Then we gently twisted them. Added shadows. Played with vanishing points. Before her eyes (and mine), her flat page began to lift and lean and tilt.
That’s the magic of art. Not copying… but knowing. Understanding how and why we see the way we do and then using that to create your own reality on the page.
Art is full of illusions. Perspective isn’t just about drawing... it’s about seeing differently. And that changes everything.
You can start exploring this too, whether you’re eight or eighty. My online course breaks down the secrets of 3D illusions, sketching, and perspective into simple, fun steps. Or book a one-to-one lesson and experience the joy of “I did that!” for yourself.
