Online Art Support After A Cornwall Lesson
The holiday in Cornwall may be over… but the art, the knowledge, the help and the lessons can carry on.
This lovely photo of Helen and me says so much.
Smiles, messy hands, shared laughter… and most importantly, knowledge being passed on in a way that stays.
Helen first came to me for an art lesson at Mawgan Porth Beach in Cornwall, then continued learning through my online course and Zoom lessons. This recent session was a Zoom catch-up refresher for the sketch section of the course, which I call Drawing Out Your Potential.
Helen’s Review
“A few years ago I took Jeanni’s Art course which was brilliant. Today I was able to catch up with Jeanni for a quick refresher lesson. I had been unable to continue my art for a while and Jeanni was so helpful this afternoon. She covered structure, shadows and light and focal point in my drawing. This was so helpful to me and I am so grateful that even after I have finished the initial course Jeanni has been available to help me with tips and advice with my own art. Thank you again Jeanni for your patience and support and your wonderfully brilliant and friendly teaching style. It is always such a joy to speak to you.”
Reviews like this mean a great deal to me because they show what I hope my teaching gives people.
Not pressure. Not fear. Knowledge that stays.
Drawing Out Your Potential
The sketch section of my course is called Drawing Out Your Potential because drawing is not only about making marks on paper.
It is about understanding how we see.
Many people think they cannot draw because they are trying to draw from memory, habit or guesswork. The brain often draws what it thinks is there, rather than what the eyes are truly seeing.
That is where psychology and optical illusion become so important.
In a sketch lesson, we look at light, shadow, structure, focal point and the visual clues that help a drawing begin to make sense. Once those ideas are understood, drawing becomes less frightening and much more logical.
Light, Shadow And Structure
Light shows where form changes.
Shadow gives depth.
Structure holds the drawing together.
A focal point helps guide the eye and gives the image clarity.
These are the foundations that help students move from guessing to seeing. They also help people trust their own eyes again.
That is why the smiles matter. They are not only smiles for the photograph. They are the smiles that appear when someone begins to reconnect with their own ability.
From Mawgan Porth Beach To Zoom
Although my teaching is strongly rooted in Mawgan Porth Beach and the Cornish landscape, the same Visual Awareness method can continue online.
A lesson on the beach can become the beginning of a much longer creative journey. Students can carry on at home through Zoom, the online course, and occasional support when they need help finding their way back into the knowledge.
When you learn with me, you do not leave with one painting and no way forward. You leave with knowledge, confidence, and the reassurance that I’m still there in the background for the odd 5 or 10 minutes of help, advice or a quick refresher whenever you need it.
The Art Can Carry On
For me, art lessons are not about producing one picture and stopping there.
They are about learning to see, understanding what is in front of you, growing confidence and developing the tools to carry on.
You can start on the beach in Cornwall… and continue at home.
You can begin with a sketch lesson… and carry that knowledge into painting, colour, composition and your own creative ideas.
The holiday may end, but the art can carry on.
Art lessons are available at Mawgan Porth Beach in Cornwall, through Zoom, and through my Visual Awareness online course.
