Paintings and Art Lessons in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall
These nine pictures show the diversity of my own commissions and original artwork… from Mawgan Porth seascapes, animals, portraits and architecture to family memories, detailed observational pieces and expressive coastal paintings.
They also help explain why my art lessons are a little different.
The same core knowledge that allows me to work across different subjects, styles and commissions is the same core knowledge I teach to others.
I don’t teach people to copy my style. I teach the fundamentals behind art… how we see, how light works, how tone creates form, how perspective changes everything, and how colour, mindset and physical position all affect the finished painting.
For some people, a painting is a memory of Cornwall. For others, an art lesson is a way to slow down, reconnect, rebuild confidence and see the world differently.
Many of my students, often within 9 to 18 hours, complete incredible artworks with real understanding and confidence. Some of their work can now be seen in my gallery space at Bettys Surf Store in Mawgan Porth.
My own work includes original paintings and personal commissions, while my lessons are suitable for complete beginners, children, adults, experienced artists, art teachers, architects and groups.
I have taught art for over 45 years in total… 25 years in mainstream education in private and state schools across Britain and Australia, followed by 20 years developing and teaching my own unique method here in Cornwall after a life-changing experience changed the way I understood learning, confidence and art.
Art is not one trick, one subject, one medium or one teacher’s method. It is a whole visual language. Once you understand the grammar, spelling and punctuation of art, you can begin to create in your own way.
That is where the game-changing part begins.
It is not only about learning technique. It is about undoing old habits, assumptions and negative patterns that may have held you back for years.
A change in mindset.
