Still Calm Morning at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall
Mawgan Porth on one of its gentler days… very different from today’s wet, grey, mizzly weather.
Still Calm Morning - Meditation was painted on location at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, and completed in my studio. I wanted to capture that particular feeling you sometimes get beside the sea when everything seems to quieten for a while.
The light was soft, the sea was calm, and the movement in the foreground was gentle rather than dramatic. It is one of those mornings when the beach seems to slow down and you notice the smaller things… the changes in colour, the reflections, the subtle movement of the water and the way the light stretches across the surface.
The changing moods of Mawgan Porth
One of the reasons I love painting Mawgan Porth is that it never looks the same twice. Today may be wet, grey and mizzly, while another morning can be luminous, still and peaceful.
As an artist who has painted and taught at Mawgan Porth for many years, I am constantly reminded how much the weather, tide and light change what we see. That is part of what makes painting from life so interesting. You are not simply copying a view. You are responding to a moment.
From original painting to fine art print
The original painting was created in acrylic on canvas and has now been reproduced as a fine art print on archival paper.
The print keeps the softness, light and gentle textures of the original painting and is available in several sizes, making it suitable for different spaces.
Still Calm Morning - Meditation is very much a painting about the quieter side of Cornwall… the moments between the storms, the busy summer days and the dramatic weather.
Mawgan Porth, Cornwall… never the same twice, and always wonderful to paint.
