What a Summer at Mawgan Porth 🎨🌊💙
Looking back through this wonderfully busy extended summer, one thing stood out more than anything else.
The smiles.
Children, adults, families, individuals, complete beginners and experienced artists, face to face in Cornwall, on Zoom and through my online teaching. Different ages and abilities, but the same sense of possibility.
For me, art is about being in the moment, spending proper time together and discovering that you can often do far more than you thought you could.
There have been so many lovely moments: communal paintings raising money for the RNLI and surf lifesavers, my little art connoisseur returning for another original painting, students coming back to show me how their work has developed, paintings finding new homes and commissions becoming personal gifts.
And then there are all the people who simply pass me on the beach, stop for a chat, sit for a while, say hello or come back year after year. Those little connections are such a big part of what makes Mawgan Porth so special to me.
There were a few unexpected adventures too, including Good Morning Britain with Andi Peters, celebrating eight years of wonderful Tripadvisor reviews and recognition in the top 10% worldwide, my much-missed hat returning and a lovely new shed.
A huge thank you to the Merrymoor Inn for rescuing wet-weather lessons, to Betty’s Surf Shop for being the gallery home for my artwork and my students’ artwork, to Stuart for helping with the new signs, and of course to the wonderful Tom, who makes the technical side of my life so much easier.
One of the loveliest gifts this year was my very own piece of music, created especially for my videos.
Here’s a little glimpse of the summer:

The kindness of people never ceases to amaze me.
And although summer may be ending, I’m still here, with live one-to-one Zoom lessons, my pre-recorded online Art Masterclass, original artwork and commissions.
For the kindness, the creativity, the laughter and, above all, the smiles.
In a world of limitations, here’s to the possibilities.
