Young Eyes See More Than We Sometimes Expect
There was plenty of laughter, smiles and excitement during this lesson at Mawgan Porth as two young artists explored the beach through careful observation.
From the very beginning, they were encouraged to look closely at the sky, the sea, the reflections and the subtle changes in colour and light. Rather than rushing to paint, we spent time asking questions, thinking carefully and discovering what was really there.
Their concentration was wonderful. Every brushstroke was considered, every answer thoughtful and every discovery added another piece to their understanding.
One of these young artists is only four years old.
Children are capable of remarkable things when we give them the opportunity to slow down, observe carefully and trust their own discoveries. As they begin to notice more, their confidence grows naturally, and that confidence shines through in their artwork.
The two finished paintings are beautifully individual, each reflecting the personality and observations of the artist who created it.
Moments like these are a wonderful reminder that learning to see is about far more than painting. It is about curiosity, confidence and discovering just how much we are capable of when we take the time to really look.
