A celebration of a glorious summer’s day at Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, capturing that fleeting moment when a translucent wave rises, curls and crashes towards the shore.
The painting is filled with light. Sunlight passes through the face of the wave, transforming the water into layers of turquoise, aquamarine, soft green and gold. Beneath the surface, shifting patterns of light and reflection create a wonderful sense of movement and depth, while the breaking crest explodes into brilliant white spray.
Beyond the wave, the softer blues of the distant sea meet a sky filled with billowing summer clouds, while the familiar headland of Mawgan Porth anchors the painting firmly in this beautiful part of the Cornish coast.
At a metre wide, this is a substantial statement piece designed to bring the colour, warmth and energy of a hot summer’s day in Cornwall into a room. It captures not only what the sea looks like, but something of how it feels to stand beside it… the sunlight, the movement, the sound of the breaking water and that wonderful clarity of the sea on a beautiful day.
Painted in acrylic on a deep-edge canvas, the artwork continues around the sides so it can be displayed without a frame.
