Seagoing Splendour depicts the stirring moment at the start of a Tall Ships Race off Falmouth, seen from both sea and shore. Spectators afloat and on land watch the ships unfurl sails and catch wind, as waves and rigging reflect the energy of movement. The composition balances the grand scale of sailing vessels with the human impulse to witness spectacle.
Mike brings Cornwall’s maritime spirit into this work. His attention to light, rigging detail and the motion of sea gives a sense of being present at that moment - salt air, tension, horizon, and hustle.
