Standing proudly above the rugged cliffs of the North Cornwall coast, Wheal Coates is one of Cornwall's most iconic landmarks. In this original painting I wanted to capture not only the character of the old mine but also the sense of peace that surrounds it today. The winding cliff path leads the eye towards the ancient stonework, while the wild coastal flowers soften the scene with colour and life. Beyond, the shimmering sea stretches into the distance, meeting the ever changing Cornish sky.
