Standing proudly above the rugged cliffs of the North Cornwall coast, Wheal Coates is one of Cornwall's most iconic landmarks. Perched high above the Atlantic Ocean, this historic engine house tells the story of Cornwall's rich mining heritage while overlooking one of the country's most breathtaking coastal landscapes.
In this original painting I wanted to capture not only the character of the old mine but also the sense of peace that surrounds it today. The winding cliff path leads the eye towards the ancient stonework, while the wild coastal flowers soften the scene with colour and life. Beyond, the shimmering sea stretches into the distance, meeting the ever changing Cornish sky.
